This popular and distinguished series marks the beginning of its 25th season on public television. In the past 24 years, National Geographic Specials have traveled the globe from deserts to jungles to underwater worlds, highlighting creatures great and small and in-between. In this season’s first episode, viewers explore the mysterious Amazon, where the region’s rain forest is being destroyed at the equivalent of 20 football fields a minute-with potentially disastrous consequences for our planet.

Royal biographer Anthony Holden takes an affectionate and critical look at Britain’s Prince Charles, who has been heir to his country’s throne since he was three. Using newsreels of scenes from Charles’ life and interviews with friends, the documentary profiles both a public and private man who describes himself as serving “the longest apprenticeship ever.”

Experts and notables such as Howard Putnam, former president of Braniff Airlines, join host Dennis McCuistion for revealing discussions on a variety of significant topics in this new series. Produced by McCuistion in association with Channel 2, the talks center on subjects as diverse as business ethics and gun control, with questions from the studio audience.



Taiwan: The Other China

Hosted by Judy Woodruff, this new four-part series takes viewers on a journey to the island of Taiwan. The series features historical footage and photographs, as well as interviews with artists, business owners and politicians, with each program focusing on an integral element of Taiwanese society.
