After a layoff of several years because of World War II, the newly reassembled Dallas Symphony Orchestra returned for a benefit concert at the Fair Park Auditorium on Dec. 9,1945. Conductor Antal Dorati opened with Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony before 4,400 who helped raise $724,682 for the war effort.
