Thumbs down to Dallas police chief Mack Vines for taking the drastic action of firing officer PatrickLeMaire for shooting to death an unarmed man before the Dallas Citizens Police Review Board had a chance to rule on the incident. The firing has caused the chronically low morale of the rank-and-file officers to dip dramatically lower. Vines should have placed LeMaire on probation pending the recommendation of the review board, which will hear the case this month. The LeMaire case is precisely the kind of case the board was created to review.
