Well, we are havin’ a party-but just barely. That’s because the giant Miller beer bust, incessantly hyped by actor Randy Quaid, is finally coming to Dallas, but not without a near-fatal hitch. The Miller people originally wanted to use all of Fair Park for their September 3 party. The Park and Recreation Department was about to agree to give Miller the run of the park, but they forgot one thing-the State Fair, which can control major activities at Fair Park during the thirty days before the fair opens (it runs September 29 through October 22 this year).

So the Park Department negotiators had to go back to Miller and ask for a new agreement. Fortunately, Miller agreed, Now the main concert (featuring The Who) will be confined to the Cotton Bowl while other activities will take place in the Trinity River flood plain.

Miller will make a $1 million donation to the Texas Special Olympics in conjunction with the party, and everyone’s glad a major snafu was avoided. Says one official of the mid-stride contract renegotiations: “We could’ve gotten our pants sued off on this.”
