THUMBS DOWN Sloppy Work At The News

|

Thumbs down to Rena Pederson, editorial page editor of The Dallas Morning News, and to Henry Tatum. associate editor of the page, for slamming Carter High School-and by extension, the entire Dallas Independent School District-for allegedly lowering academic standards. The facts clearly did not support the newspaper’s stance. As Dallas’s most widely read and influential paper, the News has a special responsibility to build its opinions on a solid foundation of facts. For the sake of its future, Dallas cannot afford unfounded attacks that add to the already widespread prejudice against its public schools. The News owes the city and the public school system an apology.
