HELP FOR WRINKLES AND DILATED VEINS

David Alkek, MD, a dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon says, “Retin-A is not magic, but it does help sun-damaged skin. ” Thin, wrinkled and discolored skin, even pre malignant keratoses can be improved or cleared by using Retin-A Improper use of Retin-A can cause redness, peeling and irritation. An experienced dermatologist should recommend the proper strength, vehicle and dosage of Retin-A, as well as a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.

Many people are not aware that there is a simple and painless way to eliminate unsightly dilated veins. Dr. Alkek uses a solution that does not cause stinging or sores like saline or other solutions can. In this procedure, called sclerotherapy, a tiny needle is inserted into the vein and the injected solution irritates and collapses the vein. Some veins may have to be treated more than once. Sclerotherapy is covered by most insurance plans. For information on Retin-A or sclerotherapy, call 691-6999.

RHINOPLASTY: THE FACTS

Rhinoplasty was the second most common procedure done at the Cosmetic Surgery Center of North Dallas in 1987. It is generally recommended that the patient be at least 16 years old. Changes in nasal contour are made by removing, shifting, or altering underlying bone and cartilage structures. The operation is performed completely from inside the nose, leaving no external scars. Thinner skinned individuals usually achieve a better result. Thicker skin is more difficult to control- but it is not, however, impossible. Final settling of the nasal tissues may take up to nine months, during which time all final changes take place. While “perfection” is not a reasonable goal, substantial improvement can usually be achieved.

Dr. Fowler has a sophisticated electronic imaging computer. A video “before” picture of the patient is electronically altered to produce an approximate “after” of what the patient might look like following surgery. The patients and the doctors find computer imaging a most useful educational tool. The Cosmetic Surgery Center of North Dallas, 17330 Preston, Suite 216D, Dallas 931-1633.

THE STRESS CYCLE

Stress in any of its forms can disrupt the proper function of the body’s intricately balanced systems. Stress frequency, intensity and duration determine the degree of hindered body function, resultant disorders and loss of resistance to disease. Thus the effects of stress play the most important role in the disease process.

The Chiropractic Center of Texas strives to treat not only the effects or symptoms of dysfunction and disease, but more importantly their ultimate causes-specific stresses. By correcting vertebral misalignments and balancing the body in other ways, the chiropractor relieves the major stresses on both the nervous system and the entire body. The extent to which alt stresses can be minimized determines the body’s ability to restore and maintain its optimum health. Dr. Roland D. Nadeau, Chiropractic Center of Texas, 850 S. Greenville, Suite 104, Richardson 680-8333.
