HEALTH CARE

|

In Dallas and Fort Worth, one phone number, 911, is important for all emergencies. The number connects with the police, the fire department, or an ambulance.

For minor emergencies, such as broken bones and lacerations, many small emergency clinics are located around town. Most of them are open seven days a week and don’t require an appointment. In addition to minor emergencies, these clinics-which are staffed by doctors and registered nurses-usually have their own labs and X-ray facilities. Most provide physical exams for school, employment, or workmen’s compensation and administer blood tests and routine blood pressure checks.

THE MAVERICKS

Seems like only yesterday the Mavericks were taking the poundings due any virgin NM team. But with a firebrand coach, Dick Malta, ami a solid front office, the Mm made the climb to respect-ability faster than an; expansion team in history. That am them a place in the heart of a town that worships miners, as the Reunion Rowdies shouted away the image of Dallas fans a Wast lifeless lot. Not that it’s been all hugs and kisses. When the Mavs were blown out by a inferior Seattle team in the first round of the ’87 playoffs, they came home to find the door locked and their sin 48-XL jackets thrown out on the lawn. This year, with playoff success, all is forgiven: new coach John MacUod brings a soft voice and a firm hand: Roy (the Rebound) Tarpley looks tike the long-Awaited Big Man: classy veterans like Do Blacknun and Brad Davis give back to a city that’s given them much.
