THUMBS UP Robin Square: Action At Last

|

Thumbs up to Sam Moseley, regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Dallas, for closing the Robin Square apartments in South Dallas and for directing the Dallas Housing Authority to provide relocation and rent assistance for the 126 families who lived at Robin Square. The apartment complex has been a slum, pure and simple, for years, yet the DHA stubbornly refused to force apartment owner Alfred D. Hughes of Austin to clean things up. Hughes was receiving $500,000 or more a year in federally guaranteed rent payments, administered through the DHA. It’s a shame that local housing officials must be forced by the federal government to provide decent housing.
