The SMU law school has the largest enrollment since 1974. The reason? Former SMU law school dean Dr. Kenneth Penegar (now special assistant to the president), says: “I think it has a lot to do with the stock market crash of last year and its effect on MBAs. MBAs suddenly looked shaky in terms of earning potential. So everybody said, ’let’s go to law school.’ Also, there’s the effect of ’L. A. Law,’ which gives law kind of a glamorous image…”



Caroline Rose Hunt, beneficiary of the Caroline Hunt Trust Estate, which owns the Rosewood Corporation, and Fran McNulty, local arts supporter, have joined forces against AIDS. They have formed a new organization, Dallas Cares, to raise money through local benefits and events. Their goal is to raise $1 million next year, 25 percent of which will go to the American Foundation of AIDS Research, and 75 percent of which will go to local AIDS service organizations. The main fundraising event will be “A Show of Support: Dallas Cares,” at the Loews Anatole Hotel on March 18. “People are interested and concerned,” says Hunt. “They just need a place where they feel good giving their money…”



The winds of Windstar have blown into Dallas. The brainchild of singer John Denver, Windstar’s mission is to “increase awareness of our personal responsibility for the quality of life on planet Earth.” The DFW Windstar Connection Group will undertake local projects to enhance the prospects of global peace.
