THUMB AWARD Backsliding on the Board

Thumbs down to Mayor Annette Strauss and City Manager Richard Knight for taking a big step backwards on the Citizens Police Review Board “compromise.” We realize that Strauss and Knight were eager to avoid a referendum on the board, but it’s hard to imagine a charter election being more racially divisive than the new plan, which was put together in private and without input from all concerned parties. The police reform process began in an open forum with participation from all segments of the community. Too bad it didn’t end that way.
