Information and Referral Service. 747-3711. Sponsored through the United Way. this service specializes in health, counseling, welfare, financial aid. and recreation services. Also, there’s the Information and Referral Center of Piano, 422-1850.

Circles of Concern is a handbook for parents that is produced by parents of students in the Episcopal, Greenhill, Hockaday, and St. Mark’s schools. The handbook deals with such issues as self-esteem, adolescence and peer pressure, anxiety and depression, suicide, substance abuse, sexual responsibility, sexually transmitted diseases, and street sense for teenagers. The coalition of parents who have put together this handbook also offers Adolescent Substance Abuse/Resource Directory, an information and referral guide of area services that deal with substance abuse. Both pamphlets are available by writing Circles of Concern, P.O. Box 515832, Dallas 75251-5832. The handbook is S5 for a single copy, $3.50 each for 25-200 copies, and $2.50 each for more than 200 copies; the resource directory is $2.50 for a single copy, $2 each for 25-200 copies, and $1 each for more than 200 copies.

Area Agency on Aging. 741-5244. A 24-hour telephone service that links persons at least 60 years old with social services for the elderly in Dallas County.

Association for Retarded Citizens. 634-9810. An advocacy organization for children and adults with mental retardation. Offers a respite program of temporary care for families with mentally retarded members, information and referral services, and continuing education.

Dallas County Medical Society. 948-3622. Callers are given the names of doctors in their area. The society can also provide !he credentials (training, certifications, and age) of member doctors.

Dallas County Podiatry Society. 521-9221. Re-ferral service and information on foot care.

Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council. 550-1262. This service will advise you of the hospital nearest you and the various services that area hospitals offer.

Dental Referral Service. 526-3435 or (metro) 263-5880. This service refers dentists in your location.

Lawyer Referral Service. 979-9090. Sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association, this service can arrange an appointment for $20 per 30-minute consultation.

Roommate Registry. 238-7666. This service helps match roommates in the Dallas area.

Volunteer Center of Dallas. 744-1194. The center recruits and refers volunteers for about 450 civic, cultural, and human-needs organizations. It lists about 1,500 volunteer jobs.

Welcome Newcomer Service. 699-6364. This service acquaints newcomers with what’s available (services, products, etc.) in their neighborhoods and the Met-roplex. A representative will even make home visits.
