On Family Violence Elizabeth Gonzales (“Blood Ties,” October), the abused wife who shot and killed her husband of eight years, was sentenced to eight years in the state penitentiary for the crime of manslaughter. On September 17, 1987, her attorney Filed motions for a new trial and for appeal. No new court date had been set when D went to press. Since the new court order requiring police to arrest assailants in family violence incidents, such arrests have more than doubled from 747 in July to 1,645 in August, according to Dallas Police Department statistics.
