THUMB A W S R D “Reasoned Input” for the DISD

|

Thumbs up to Dr. Wright Lassiter Jr., president of El Centra College, for volunteering to resurrect the inac- tive Afro-American Community advisory committee to the DISD. Never have we been more in need of “reasoned input,” as Lassiter puts it, from the minority leadership on issues such as minority student achievement levels, dropouts, and other challenges facing the DISD. The group’s initial task will be to review documents relating to the DISD’s thirty-year battle in the courts over desegregation. Then the committee will advise the incoming superintendent on a key matter: whether to proceed with the request that Judge Barefoot Sanders remove the school system from court jurisdiction.
