Showing the Cotton Bowl at the height of her glory (lining the October Texas-OU clash, our artist has taken a little artisrir lilierty with perspective to symbolize the close relationship which has existed for fifty veal’s between the Queen of the Fair and the City of Dallas.



It is difficult to realize that the Cotton Bowl has been entertaining Texans and their guests for one-third of the lifetime of the State of ’Texas itself. With this New Year’s Dav contest, we begin yet another exciting parade of sporting, muisicai and patriotic twills which together make up one year in her social calendar.



Her versatility in bringing thrills, excitement and entertainment to North Texas knows no limits. Football, symphonic spectaculrs, rock festivals, band concerts, fireworks extravaganzas, militaiy reviiews, religious and musical pageants – she has made them all welcome. And mam” individual performances within her hallowed walls haw helped to immortalize the performer:: The Cotton Bowl Classic honor- roll reads likes a Who’s Who of college fiittball with such gieat names as Bobbv Layne. Jim Brown, John Kinibrough, Doak Walker, Sammy Baugh. Babe Parilli. Y. A. little, Norm Van Broeklin. Jim Swink. Lance Alworth, Whiizzer White, K\ie Rote, Roger Staubaeh, Earl Campbell, Joe Theismann, and Doug Flutie. All have performed their magic within her shell.



One unique aspect of the 72.000 seat stadium is that no other great football facility in the nation his been built and operated by a slate tail: The Stale Fair of Texas uses the Cotton Bowl as a centeipiece in much the same way as many stale fairs use racetracks. Each October during the Fail- the traditional Texas-Oklahoma game is played. In 1985 this game sold out for its 39th straight year.



In essence the Cotton Bowl is a place where people, while enjoying an exciting event, also enjoy each oilier. And as the Lone Star State begins a year-long series of events celebrating her 150th birthday, you may be sure that the Cotton Bowl will be directly involved, since the 1986 Cotton Bowl Classic will be the First Official Event of the ’Texas Sesquieentennial.
