THUMB AWARD CHAMBER: DE-RAIL DE-PLAN?

|

Thumbs Down to North Dallas Chamber of Commerce Chairman Stephen A. Coke for launching a last-minute attack on the North Central Expressway subway plan. Coke called for planners to reconsider running rail lines through Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek. Talk about bad timing! That alternative was determined to be very unpopular months ago, especially among Oak Lawn residents living near the MKT railroad lines. In addition, the request is in conflict with a 1980 City Council resolution that says the railroad lines should not be used for bus transitways. The chamber chairman had a full year to put his two cents’ worth into the planning process, and the last thing Dallas needs is another feasibility study-especially in Oak Lawn.
