THUMB AWARD STALE NEWS IS NO NEWS

|

Thumbs Down to The Dallas Morning News for the rancid Tony Dorsett interview it bannered across the front page in its July 30 editions entitled “Dorsett Philosophizes About Life, Football.” Not only did the story fail to tell us anything we didn’t already know about the Dallas Cowboys running back; it was published nearly a month after the interview was conducted-an obvious attempt to milk Dorsett’s news value when he was in the midst of his contract dispute. Most of the time Dallas readers have benefited from the city’s intense newspaper competition. This time the race to beat the competition bred mediocrity. Give us a break, folks: your readers might be a little more intelligent than you think.
