Thumbs Down to Arlington City Councilman Bill Snider for his proposal requiring video rental shops doing business in Arlington to record and give police the names of customers who rent X-rated movies. At a recent work session city of-ficials agreed that such records should be made available to law-enforcement authorities to ensure that customers are at least 17 years old and to discourage people from seeking X-rated movies within their city limits. It’s one thing for city officials to attempt to rid a community of what its citizens feel to be pornography. It’s quite another thing to attempt to enforce morality by using constitutionally questionable means.
