THUMB AWARD NEIGHBORS SAY NO

|

Thumbs Up to the Dallas City Plan Commission for its courageous decision to reject a $1 billion real estate development in Oak Lawn. On August 8, the plan commission voted 9-5 to reject the proposal which called for a massive 41-acre development near Lemmon Avenue and Dallas North Tollway. City staff urged its rejection because of its size, and neighborhood groups attempted to prove the project was too massive for the neighborhood. The decision was dubbed a major victory for the area and the first major test of the Oak Lawn Plan, a land-use guidebook formulated in 1983. The plan commission passed with flying colors.
