THUMB AWARD BUILDING A B(R)AD IMAGE

By D Magazine |

Thumbs Down to artist/developer Bradley Bayoud for making some pompous remarks about Dallas architects and builders in the March 24 issue of the Dallas Times Herald’s “Unique” section. Bayoud, who is all of 28 years old, was quoted as saying, “Trammell Crow, who was a [Gerald] Hines counterpart in Dallas, built a bunch of schlock. But then, he didn’t have to do anything else. Dallas has always done well with mediocrity in architecture.” Bayoud, who is known to be bored with today’s architecture, was likely smarting from remarks made by local architecture critics that the designs of some of his buildings are “gimmicky” and “wacky.” But if Bayoud wants any respect among his peers for his work in Dallas, he’s going to have to learn that attacking a legend isn’t the way to do it.
