THUMB AWARD SADDLE-SORE SHERIFF?

|

Thumbs Up to Dallas County Sheriff Jim Bowles, who isn’t about to let Dallas Mayor Starke Taylor out-ride him in the Dallas County Sheriff’s Posse. As sheriff, Bowles is automatically entitled to lead the posse, but he doesn’t know how to ride. So Bowles is taking riding lessons. It takes a lot of nerve if you’ve lived in Texas for a long time to admit you don’t know how to ride a horse. Taylor already knows how to ride, and he announced in May he’d like to join the posse, a group formed in the late 1800s to help keep the peace. Its 52 members, now largely a ceremonial group, work security at big events like the Texas-OU weekend and conventions. We just wonder who’ll be riding higher in the saddle.
