While thumbing through the June 1985 issue of Town & Country magazine, we were surprised to find a listing of
“The Best Lawyers in the USA.”
In it. Town & Country listed not only the country’s largest law firms, but the best general trial lawyers, tax
lawyers, estate and trust planners and criminal lawyers. The Dallas/Fort Worth legal community weighed in by placing a
number of top attorneys and legal firms on the list.
Under “The Biggest Law Firms” category were Dallas’ Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld and Johnson & Swanson.
Richard Freling of Johnson & Swanson, Robert A. Watson of Fort Worth’s Watson, Ice, McGee, Morgan,
Hughes and Liles and Edward B. Winn of Dallas’ Winn, Beaudry & Vir-den were named three of the “Best Tax
Lawyers.” And William E. Collins of Dallas’ Thompson and Knight was named one of “The Best Estates, Trusts and
Tax Planning Lawyers.”
