DALLAS City of Winners

|

In many ways, the city of Addison is a miniature clone of her vibrant big sister to the south. A town where success is (he norm, where failure is practically unknown, where the winning image prevails, where growth and progress are commonplace, the home of the corporate jet, surrounded by championship golf Courses, Addison in most respeets is a town of modern profiles and fast paced living.

All (his makes one top-level contrast all the more refreshing and breathtaking. Nestled regally in its own arboreal setting, the Addison Town Hall presides over its citizens with calm, majestic authority behind imposing white columns which distinguish the strueture from everything else in town. The combination of superb architecture and appropriate setting, aloof from the traffic on Belt Line Road, is a beauty spot often missed by passing motorists intent upon their destination.

Originally built in 1939 as the home of Mr. & Mrs. J. B. McEntire, Jr., Stonegate Hall was the creation of architect Robert Goodwin as his “best example of how a house should be built.” Then a quiet country town, present day Addison covers about six square miles, equivalent to the combined area of Highland Park and University Park. On the south it is bounded by Brookhaven Club Drive, on the west by Marsh Lane, on the north by the Dallas County line and on the east by Dallas North Parkway north of Belt Line. White Rock Creek south of Belt Line.

Stonegate Hall curtseyed to the past and challenged the future with befitting flair and panache as the eighth annual Kappa Alpha Theta showhouse in 1979. When the last guest had departed, when (he last candle had been snuffed, when (he last round of happy laughter and conversation had faded down her oaken halls and her spacious rooms were at last silent, the doors closed forever on her private career only to open a few weeks later upon even greater beauty and splendor in public service.

A beauty of yesterday had gracefully become today’s queen.
