CUBURN CLASSICS

By JAN JARVIS |

The 1985 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition is still months away but the excitement has already started to build as past grand prize winners perform at Texas Christian University, Texas Wesley-an College and the Kimbell Art Museum as part of the 1984-85 Cliburn Concert series.

Mary Francis Clark, volunteer director for the concert series, says community response has been enthusiastic, and ticket sales have exceeded the 1,200-ticket goal set earlier in the season. The Kimbell series has sold out, but tickets are still available for the university performances, which continue through February. Tickets begin at $10 and are available through the Cliburn Concert’s ticket office.

One show concertgoers won’t want to miss is the November 13 performance by Richard Stoltzman on the clarinet and Bill Douglas on the piano and bassoon. “They stole the show at the Edinburg Festival,” says Clark.
