THUMB AWARD PRESS RESCUE

By D Magazine |

Thumbs Up to The Dallas Morning News and to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for helping the Dallas Times Herald print its April 3 afternoon edition and its April 4 special sections after three fires in the Herald’s pressroom delayed publication. Laurie Walton, marketing director at the Herald, says that as far as anyone can remember, it was the first time either of the Dallas papers has come to the aid of the other in such a situation. No one was hurt in the fires, which most Herald officials believe were caused by a spark that ignited paper dust. The water used to extinguish the fires seeped into the presses, causing them to shut down. The Herald’s presses were in operation two days later after a thorough drying-out.
