Thumbs Up to the 35 residents of the West Dallas public housing projects who were the first to sign up to learn trade skills that they will use to help renovate about 1,350 units in the old and dilapidated complex. Dallas Housing Authority director Jack Herrington says that the residents will learn a skill that they can use later in industries such as carpentry, bricklaying and plumbing. Another “Thumbs Up” should be given to J.R. Edmunds, owner of Alterstart Systems Inc., who initiated the program. Edmunds grew up in the projects, and he says that the people who live there now just need a little help to make things better
