Thumbs Down to Attorney General Jim Mattox for his recent erratic behavior. His problems began with his reaction to allegations that he improperly documented some campaign contributions. Mattox responded as if he were being accused of embezzlement rather than a small misdemeanor. As the investigations continued and it looked more and more as if questionable dealings were connected to the contributions, Mattox began to act like a cornered animal-lashing out at all who came near. His most recent display came with his treatment of a lawyer from the firm of Fulbright & Jaworski. The attorney claimed that Mattox threatened to use the power of his office to put the firm out of the bond business unless the attorney dropped certain investigative proceedings in the campaign-contribution investigation. All in all, Jim Mattox is making himself an embarrassment to his hometown, Dallas.
