THUMB AWARD

BACK TO THE BASICSBR>

Thumbs Up to Ross Perot for his bold remarks on education. As head of the Governor’s Select Committee on
Public Education, he recently gave an honest, blunt report on the criticisms of the state’s public-educational
standards. He sharply denounced bilingual education as an experiment that isn’t working- something that few others
have been bold enough to do-and said that sports and extracurricular activities are controlling the schools. He called
for a return to “classic education” and vowed that he and his committee would see their recommendations through the
legislative process rather than disband once their report was submitted. With Perot out front, our educational system
has a fighting chance.
