STREET TALK

St. Mark’s School has a new headmaster -again. After a six-month nationwide search, the St. Mark’s Board of Trustees chose 34-year-old David V. Hicks for the position. Hicks has an impressive background, especially considering his age. He is a Rhodes scholar and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Princeton University. He also holds a master’s degree from Oxford University and has a certificate in Russian from Avto In-stituti in Moscow. He is a recipient of the American Library Association’s Outstanding Book Award for his book, Norms & Nobility: A Treatise on Education. Heard enough? He’s also climbed the Matterhorn and run for Congress.

For the first time ever, the Byron Nelson Golf Classic will not be held at Preston Trail Country Club. Instead, the golf tournament will take place at the new Las Colinas Sports Club’s course. The new course offers at least three added attractions: The green for the first hole is shaped like the state of Texas. A nearby sand trap is shaped like Oklahoma and the water trap resembles the Texas Gulf. And even if the course doesn’t prove to be the professional wonder it’s touted to be, at least the golfers will have something to remember it by.

While Rita Clements, wife of former Gov. Bill Clements, was living in Austin, she was constantly busy with a myriad of functions and committees, not to mention redecorating the Governor’s Mansion. Now that she’s back in Dallas, she apparently doesn’t plan to slow down one bit. Recently, she was nominated by the board of directors of Dr. Pepper.
