It’s January, and the new year is here. It’s time to turn our thoughts toward the year ahead.

Just how significant will the upcoming 12 months be in the annals of our city? We asked four area mystics what they see for Dallas in the coming year. Interpret their predictions as you wish -mere flirtations with the future or reliable predictions – but keep them in the back of your minds. Come 1984, we mayor may not – be surprised.

Linda Griffin, astrologer and psychic:

-A close encounter with aterrorist activity involving aforeign airline will lead totighter security measures atD/FW airport.

-A major Fortune 500company will elect Dallas asits headquarters, which willresult in 400 new jobs.

-A Dallas-producedmovie will be awarded Academy acclaim because of a macho foreign actor.

-The Dallas Cowboys willplay in the Super Bowl – possibly beating Cincinnati.

-More setbacks for Dallastransit.

-A swing in the politicalmood will make the TownLake project a reality.

-A scandal will be uncovered in the Dallas school system involving a misappropriation of funds.

-A new program involving the Spanish language willaffect the Dallas schoolsystem.

John Catchings, psychic:

– 1983 will be a much better year economically than1982. Interest rates will continue to come down, morejobs will be available – particularly in construction – alot of new development willbegin south of Dallas and realestate sales will be boomingby summer.

-There will be a major hotel fire in which two peopledie.

-Someone named Beverlywill be kidnapped and murdered in Dallas.

-The Dallas Cowboys willplay Cincinnati in the SuperBowl, and Dallas will win bythree points.

-Wes Wise will run a successful campaign for mayor.

Diane Eichenbaum, astrologer:

-Vital interests will develop in electronics, arts and metaphysics.

-The television industrywill grow locally this year,and will continue to growthrough the Eighties. Thiswill be a shot in the arm forDallas’ economy.

-Money will be tightthrough the year with a slightrelief during the summermonths.

-The cost of living will remain high, as will unemployment.

-Real estate will begin moving, and banks will be in a good position to issue loans.

– A problem (or a series ofproblems) with Dallas cityprograms will provide achallenge for Gov. MarkWhite. Dallas’ city leaderswill be forced to deal with cityproblems in new ways.

Fan Benno, psychic:

-Two large industries willmove into far North Dallas.One will provide many jobsfor the city.

-There will be a fire in anold Dallas hotel during cold weather.

-The Dallas Cowboys will win the Super Bowl.

-Dallas Cowboys quarterback Danny White may hurthis left leg this season.

-A dark horse in a political race may win.

-A major arts project inDallas has a chance of beingsnuffed out.
