THUMB AWARD WRIGHT MOVE AT DISD

By D Magazine |

Thumbs Up to Dallas School Supt. Linus Wright for making the most massive personnel shifts in the history of the DISD. Wright, in what could be called the “Wednesday Morning Massacre” (January 20), announced plans to reduce his central staff of administrators by half – from 400 to 200. His top management team will be halved from 22 to 11. Teachers will not be directly affected by the cuts.

Since the reign of former Supt. Nolan Estes, the ranks of bureaucrats entrenched at school headquarters at 3700 Ross Ave. have swelled to the point that Dallas now leads the nation in administrative costs per student. Wright’s moves are good news for taxpayers (the cuts will save an estimated $8 million), good news for teachers (whose most vocal complaint has been the insensitivity and high-handed approach of the nonteaching central staff) and, most importantly, good news for students (who will benefit from teachers spending more time teaching and less time filling out administrative paper work).
