Thumbs Up to Lillian Bradshaw, director of the new Central Public Library, for her determination to build a quality library system for the city of Dallas. Mrs. Bradshaw has spent her life with the Dallas library, starting in 1946 and becoming director in 1962. She has been instrumental in increasing the number of Dallas’ branch libraries from five to 18, each one distinctively suited to its own neighborhood. Twelve years ago, Bradshaw and former Mayor Erik Jonsson decided that Dallas needed a central library that would be technologically outfitted to suit the expanded library system. Through their persistent work on the 1978 bond election, and her unrivaled ability to rally and maintain support, Dallas now has a central library that Bradshaw believes is the best in the country.
