Thumbs Down to the RSR Corp., the West Dallas lead smelting firm, for denying that any relationship exists between lead in soil and high blood levels of lead.
Despite the denial, the firm has agreed to remove 6 inches of topsoil from the playground of the West Dallas Boys Club. The soil there tests out at 100 times the safety level recommended by some scientists. Since John DePaul (the RSR vice president who made the denial) and other RSR executives are so sure the lead level is harmless, we suggest they take some home for their lawns and gardens -far from the site of their lead smelter.
