THUMB AWARD POSTAL DEBACLE

Thumbs Down to the U.S. Postal Service for proposing to demolish the downtown post office. This was the first proposition made by a federal agency to tear down a historic government building in the state. The recommendation of the postal service was to lease the building to a private developer who would then destroy the historic building to erect a skyscraper. As it is, there are enough skyscrapers in the Central Business District and too few historic buildings. Thumbs Up to members of the Dallas City Council, the Central Business District Association and, of course, the Dallas Preservation League, for supporting efforts to keep the old building.
