THUMB AWARD WARNER AMEX’S ESCAPADE IN CENSORSHIP

|

Thumbs Down to Warner Amex for unilaterally deciding to ban an R-rated movie channel from its Dallas cable system without going to the Dallas City Council or the city’s voters. While cable subscribers in Dallas won’t be allowed to turn to Escapade, the R-rated movie channel, people in Addison, Carrollton, Fort Worth, Abilene, and even Tyler will be watching. In Mesquite, at least the city government and Warner Amex gave the voters there the chance to decide if they wanted Escapade, and they approved. We’re not endorsing R-rated movies on television, but we do think Dallas residents should be given a chance to choose for themselve
