BABY BOOM PART II

|

If someone asked you to name the greatest contributor to Dallas’ population boom this summer, you’d probably say the steady stream of migrants from the Frost Belt.

Wrong. More Dallas newcomers are coming from within than without.

Dallas is in the midst of a baby boom the likes of which has not been seen since the late Forties and early Fifties; and from all appearances, it’s a boom that’s going to be with us for several summers.

All Dallas hospitals are reporting record numbers of births this summer. At newer hospitals like Medical City on Forest Lane (which is reporting about 100 births a week), 1981 is breaking all existing records. Baylor, Parkland, Methodist, and Presbyterian are also swamped with expectant mothers. If the trend at Parkland is sustained throughout December, about 1500 more babies will have been born at the hospital this year than in all of 1978.
