Thumbs Down to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for busting the comedy team of Bowley and Wilson for singing dirty words in its nightclub act. John Bowley and John Wilson have been performing the show in Dallas for about 12 years. The questionable words named in the charges are heard frequently in any R-rated movie or junior high locker room. The words themselves are not sufficient to prove obscenity, Bowley and Wilson’s lawyer points out. Henry Wade’s prosecutors must prove that the entire act -which was performed before consenting, paying adults at Bowley and Wilson’s club on Greenville Avenue-is without serious artistic merit. Bowley and Wilson figure that means they’ll have to perform their entire act for the jury, while the taxpayers pay the cover charge.
