Thumbs Up to American Express for its unique approach to supporting the arts in Dallas. American Express will contribute 3 cents to the Dallas Ballet for every purcnase made in Dallas on an American Express card between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30. (That adds up when you consider that in October 1980, 650,000 American Express purchases were made in Dallas.) And the company will kick in another $2 to the ballet for every new Dallas cardholder. As the company admits in its promotional advertising, the campaign makes dollars for American Express, also. But it still gives the ballet lots of needed funding. And that type of generosity is refreshing, especially coming from a company that isn’t even based in Dallas.
