THUMB AWARD SINCE WHEN IS THRIFT A SIN?

|

Thumbs Down to the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development for, in a classic display of bureaucratic mentality, chastising the city of Dallas for not squandering $26,208,707 worth of funds extracted from the American taxpayer. In a letter that arrived at City Manager George Schrader’s office, a HUD official noted that “it appears the city may be falling behind in meeting the fiscal year 1981 CDBG fund utilization goal in that only 42 per cent of that goal has been met to date with 60 per cent of the time exhausted.” Translated, that means HUD is slapping the wrists of Dallas officials for not participating in the kind of government waste that the electorate overwhelmingly renounced in the general election of November 1980.
