THUMB AWARD HEAR THE ONE ABOUT THE AGGIE CORPSMAN?

|

Thumbs Up to Texas A&M University for banning the wearing of sabers by corpsmen during football games. The restriction was established only after Greg Hood, an Aggie corpsman acting as officer of the day, charged SMU cheerleaders during the football contest in College Station October 31. As male SMU cheerleaders formed the traditional SMU spell-out cheer, Hood, with his saber drawn, rushed onto Kyle Field. He kicked one cheerleader, was knocked down by another and was finally tackled by an A&M safety and policemen. Cadet Hood said he was merely performing his duty: removing unauthorized persons from the playing field. Perhaps Col. James Woodall, Corps commandant, should frisk his cadets for other combat weapons before the next game.
