THUMB AWARD BETTY DEVELOPS A LITTLE BITE

|

Thumbs Up to State Sen. Betty Andujar (R-Fort Worth) for sticking her political neck out – for the first time in eight years in the Senate- for a new state law that will provide state monies to finance shelters for battered wives. When controversy has arisen in the past, Andujar has been conspicuous in her timidity. This time she was a virtual lioness, vowing publicly to face Gov. Clements head-on if he vetoed the bill, which was opposed by all three Dallas senators (they were the only Senate members opposed to it). As a result of a pressure campaign orchestrated by Andujar, Governor Bill signed the bill. Welcome to politics, Betty.
