Thumb Award COUNTY COURTSHIP: NO MORE PARTY LINES

By D Magazine |

I Thumbs Up to the “unholy alliance” of Democratic ’Judge Garry Weber and Republican Commissioners Jim Jackson and Nancy Judy on the Dallas County Commissioners Court. The three have clearly forsaken petty partisan differences and the traditional patronage-oriented policy of running the county and opted in favor of good old common sense-something Dallas county government has not been well acquainted with for the past 20 years. Among many other things, the three have made department heads in the county bureaucracy fully responsible – and accountable-for the actions and expenditures of their departments. The only one who seems to be carping is Democratic County Commissioner Roy Orr, who obviously doesn’t like some department head deciding what jobs “his people” can have. Sorry, Roy. Progress is immune to everything – even the Dallas County Commissioners Court.
