CAMBODIAN INCUR-SION JUST A START FOR WFAA

That recent WFAA-TV special, “Cambodia: On Our Conscience,” was more than just a $42,000 flexing of the biggest local television news department in Dallas. It was the forerunner of Channel 8’s strategy for dealing with the local television market challenges of the Eighties, specifically the competition from cable television. News director Marty Haag, realizing that with the advent of cable WFAA will no longer be able to dominate the local market, is toying with the idea of a new Channel 8 venture: national syndication. WFAA is trying to sell the Cambodia show to other stations around the country, and if it finds a market for such documentaries, you can look for more specials from the far corners of the earth.
