In early June, prisoners in the Dallas City Jail lodged several complaints about brutal treatment from their jailers: beatings, choking of inmates, and other harassment. Newly appointed Police Chief Glen King wasted little time taking action: An investigation was launched by the police internal affairs division and concluded by early August. Evidence implicated 17 officers in the abuse of prisoners. King took quick and decisive action, firing three officers, suspending two more, and issuing reprimands to the other 12 involved. If only we could get this kind of action from the school district.
