In 1976 we stated that Titche’s was the best place to buy sexy underwear, but we’d like to amend that now. The best place isn’t even in Dallas, but in Greenville, 40 miles east on 1-30. Best, that is. if saving “money appeals to you. The Henson lingerie plant in Greenville, supplier to Sanger Harris and others, has a factory outlet called The Lobby Shop, which features merchandise for at least 50 percent less than you’d pay locally. The savings more than compensate for the $3 in gas it takes you to get there and back. The shop contains everything from nightgowns, panties, bras and slips to robes, slippers and bed jackets. Allow about 45 minutes each way. Follow I-30 east to the Greenville-Business North exit. Turn left on the overpass and you’ll be on Wesley – go exactly three miles to the Lobby Shop at the corner of Wesley and Lee. No credit cards, only cash and checks, with identification, are accepted. Open 9 to 5, Monday through Saturday.

Phoney Celebrities

Tony Freytag’s new business venture started as a joke. The problem: Callers didn’t seem to like to leave messages on his answer phone, and since he was frequently out making sales calls, that meant a lot of missed messages. Tony countered by making a tape that was bound to provoke a reaction, and it worked: He soon got laughs and messages. A new company, Star Tapes, was born. Each tape contains six different vocal impressions, timed for 15- and 25-second spots, to accommodate almost any answer phone on the market. Voices on Volume I are impressions of entertainers (John Wayne, C3PO, R2D2). Volume II contains the voices of politicians like Jimmy Carter, and Volume III contains the voices of sports figures like Howard Cosell and Muhammad Ali. The tapes cost $6.95 each and come with instructions. Available at Sanger Harris and Titche’s.

According to our Dallas-Fort Worth Book of Lists (November 1977), April is Dallas’ favorite month to increase the population. January. February and March rank second, third and fourth, respectively. What all this means is that you’ve probably been getting birth announcements ever since Christmas and have a long list of gifts to buy. A nice solution: Visit The Lemon Drop, 106 Spring Creek Village, and do all your shopping in one place. They carry a charming selection of handmade personalized baby gifts at very reasonable prices. Shown here, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, handmade and personalized, $12 each: personalized baby quilt, $19.95; crib sheet with elephant applique, $ 12.95; gown with personal- ized pocket and doll, $12; name cut-out, $2 a let-ter. Allow two weeks for personalizing. The Lem-on Drop, open Monday-Saturday from 10 to 5:30.

Stoves of Academe

“Gourmet cooking at home is a movement that has arrived,” says Craig Claiborne. In Dallas, cooking classes are beginning everywhere, but the number of really good cooking instructors in the city can still be counted on one hand. So we’d like to welcome newcomer Chris Jonsson, pictured below, second from right. She’s a graduate of the Cordon Bleu in London, La Varenne in Paris, Simone Beck’s Cooking School in Fiance and the Gritti Palace in Venice. She will begin her third session of classes the week of May 8 and is accepting students now. Chris offers two basic types of courses: participation (in which you do the cooking and eat the meal) and demonstration (in which she prepares the food while you watch and take notes). Separate courses feature French dinner menus, international cuisine, low-calorie cooking: all are held in her fully equipped, extra-large kitchen. Six participation classes, $150; six demonstration classes, $90; three demonstration classes, $45. Call her at 358-5437 or write her at Box 25068, Dallas 75225.
