Fort Worth is buzzing with delight over the new girl in town. Margaret Harold, publisher of New Woman magazine, has uprooted her presses and her 45-person staff and moved her entire Allied Publications operation from Fort Lauderdale to Fort Worth. Cowtown, it was proudly reported, was chosen from 130 other cities for Allied’s new headquarters. To add to the stir, Margaret Harold purchased Brad Corbett’s Rivercrest home the very day it went on the market.
Margaret Harold is the sole stockholder of New Woman. We had a lot of questions for her. Such as, Why Fort Worth? Three weeks of inquiries produced no return word from Ms. Harold. Finally, contact was made with Wendy Danforth, Associate Editor. “We’ve had some problems with publicity,” she apologized. “It seems we’re always misquoted. We’ve finally decided that no publicity is better than bad publicity.” (Hope we got that right.)
One thing we do know – New Woman is a phenomenally successful publication. First published in 1971, its total paid circulation has grown to 847,000, up 320 percent over the last two years. C’mon Margaret. Come out and take a bow.
