The Thumb Awards

|

Thumbs Down: To the Dallas Movie Classification Board for proposing another classification for their arsenal of arbitrary taste. In addition to their ratings of V for Violence, S for Sex, and L for Language, the Board has added P – for Perversion. Give the Board a PP – for Pretentious Piety.

Thumbs Up: To the technological heroes who made possible this recent headline in the Dallas Morning News: “Helicopter delivers tiny baby.”

Thumbs Down: To Dallas Mayor Robert Folsom. When asked by Dallas Morning News reporter Nancy Smith to comment on his attitudes concerning the ERA, Folsom replied, “I don’t know about the ERA. What is the ERA? We haven’t voted on it yet, have we? We haven’t had a referendum? What is on the ERA?” Glad to see you’re keeping up with the issues, Bob.

Thumb In Mouth: To Fort Worth Mayor Clif Overcash. Overcash was recently delivering a rousing on-ward-and-upward speech to an audience comprised entirely of women. “I’m proud to be from Cowtown,” he proclaimed. “And I want everyone in this room to stick out your chest andsay ’I’m proud to be from Cowtown too’.” Cheap thrills, Clif.

Thumbs Up: To the Texas Aero-nautics Commission for giving approval to Southwest Airlines to provide flights from Dallas to six additional Texas cities. Southwest’s fares to Austin, Corpus, El Paso, Midland/ Odessa, and Lubbock will be at least ! 60% less than the comparable flights of Braniff, Continental, and Texas International.

Thumbs Up: To Channel 4 for donating time to the TACA auction each night from 10:30 to 2 a.m., January 19-23. Good show.
