Miss U.S.A. 1977, Kim Tomes of Houston, stopped in Dallas recently and appeared in a story the next day in a June 16 edition of the Dallas News. “According to Miss Tomes,” the story read, “being yourself and being skinny are the two most important qualities for beauty pageant competition. ’Before a pageant,’ said Kim, ’1 don’t eat.’” She’s not kidding. The story describes Miss Tomes as “a shapely 5-foot-8 blonde (36-24-26).” That’s not just skinny, that’s topheavy.
