Kessler Pie Co.
A neon sign that reads “To Live and Pie in Oak Cliff” beckons sweet-toothed passersby to the 400-square-foot space on Oak Cliff’s Tyler Street. The menu features the same flavors Armida Ortega used to bring to markets: The Mellow Yellow (vanilla custard and banana), The Big Sexy (Grand Marnier and strawberries), the Suit & Tie (chocolate mousse with a sweet-and-salty crust), and the American Pie (apple, naturally).
Emporium Pies
It’s hard not to fall in love with the charming pies at this adorable shop. Owners Megan Wilkes and Mary Sparks serve their slices in quaint plates for $5 each, and the Cloud Nine is worth every penny.
Humble Pies
in a strip center on Garland Road is a quaint shop, with a country-cottage look and a lineup that includes old-fashioned apple and a tangy buttermilk chess from a chef who turned in his toque for the sweet side. Don’t miss the chocolate cream pie, with a rich, silky pot de crème filling, or the coconut cream pie, decadent with a coconut custard full of chewy coconut shreds.
