Laura Kostelny Talks About Finding Beauty

|

“How’s the magazine business?” It’s a question we get a lot, and the answer is it’s just like every other industry right now. The business is changing. We’ve had to let good people go. We’ve had to get more creative. But at a time when the “R” word is being thrown around with abandon (that’s “recession,” not “reality television,” unfortunately), being  innovative in the pursuit of beauty becomes more important.

That’s why we brought in a panel of designers to discuss their current projects and some of their favorite of-the-moment trends. We learned some good news: everyone is busy. And we talked about things you can do to spruce up the house without taking out a construction loan. Read all about it, and check out the list of this year’s Best Designers.

This issue also features two interiors that are rich in textiles, but the two couldn’t be more different. Textile maven Bonnee Sharp’s Tudor may be traditional on the outside, but it’s cool, colorful, and contemporary once you cross the threshold. Conversely,  Carolyn Neher’s Vendome condominium surroundings are full of fabrics and color that are all about regality, elegance, and formality—yet it’s also the playground of her granddaughter.

We also visited Greer Farm, a 400-acre getaway located 150 miles outside Dallas, near Daingerfield. Check out the beautiful grounds replete with everything from roses, daffodils, and caladiums to radishes, artichokes, tons of berries, and more. After you see it, we’re confident you’ll book a weekend stay in one of the quaint cabins.

And we can’t discuss the pursuit of beauty without mentioning the D Art Slam—a juried exhibition of drawings, paintings, photography, and sculpture taking place the weekend of May 29-31 at f.i.g. Get more details about the event in Calendar and at www.d-artslam.com. We hope to see you there!

As always, we want to hear from you. Let us  know where you’re finding beauty in these less-than-fabulous times. After all, we can all use a little help in our quest for guilt-free glamour.

Cordially,

Laura Kostelny
