Aaron Parazette "Gone"

It’s September, and we’ve almost made it through another incredibly hot summer. Let’s celebrate—in the cool (both air-conditioned and aesthetically speaking) galleries around town. Didn’t get to the beach this summer? Check out Aaron Parazette: Surf Trip. The artist is an award-winning, Houston-based painter who takes inspiration from his love for surfing. (Sep 6–Oct 18. Tue–Sat, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Dunn and Brown Contemporary. 5520 Tracy St. 214-521-4322. www.dunnandbrown.com.) Looking for something a little less peaceful?

Thomas Ruff "Subtrat 9-11"

Check out Ronald Moran’s installation at PanAmerican Art Projects. Apparently his white-cotton covered work “depicts scenes of both violent and innocuous domesticity.” (Sep 6–Oct 11. Tue–Sat, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. 1615 Dragon St. 214-522-3303. www.panamericanart.com.) Check out Sehnsucht (Aspiration) for work by artists Ingrid Calame, David Reed, Dan Walsh, Vanessa Beecroft, Hedi Slimane, and Jeremy Kost, among others. (Through Sep 6. Tue-Sat, noon-5 p.m. Light & Sie Gallery. 129 Leslie St. 214-745-2255. www.lightandsie.com.) Feeling political? Head for the MAC (3120 McKinney Ave. 214-953-1212. www.themac.org.) for an exhibition with work by Laray Polk, Simeen Ishaque, and Sasha Dela. Polk’s “Gaza Zoo” is an installation of 40 digital prints representing “domination inherent in

a phonetic alphabet.” Ishaque’s works are unique—combining Urdu script and scarves and veils. Her work honors assassinated Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto. Dela’s exhibit uses sculpture, installation, video, and photography to inspire people to “question our social and urban development.” (Sep 6-Oct 10. Wed–Sat, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.) Jackie Tileston’s “Phenomorama” is happening over at Holly Johnson Gallery (Sep 6-Oct 11. Tue–Sat, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 1411 Dragon St. 214-369-0169. www.hollyjohnsongallery.com.) The artist presents a series of multimedia paintings and works on paper to create colorful and unusual pieces—for example, combining Chinese landscape painting with French wallpaper and old-fashioned panoramas.

Dallas artist Charlotte Davis Seifert shows her work at The Norwood Flynn Gallery this month. The painter takes cues from nature—“branches, seedpods, and vistas” beckon viewers closer.
